In 2006, VENT will turn 30! It has been a grand three decades, thanks to a superb office staff, some of the most highly skilled tour leaders in the world, and the support of a wonderful and loyal group of clients. From our humble beginnings 30 years ago, VENT has steadfastly pursued a set of goals consistent with the interests of our clients, including providing the highest quality experiences in exciting and educational nature travel, and embracing a conservation ethic that reflects our dedication to the preservation of wild things and wild places. We could not have predicted the success we would ultimately achieve. VENT is widely regarded as the world's finest bird tour company, a distinction we are immensely proud of. Many of you have been on multiple trips and have become friends with many of our leaders, while others are still learning about the VENT tradition.

To celebrate our anniversary, we are planning a big event in our home state of Texas, where it all began in 1976. The site we have chosen for our 2006 reunion is one of America's greatest birding and wildlife areas: the Lower Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. Few other regions in the country offer such unequaled birding opportunities combined with easy accessibility to diverse locations. Our celebration will be based at the Four Points by Sheraton hotel, located in McAllen. We will have four fun-filled days to explore the varied regions of the Lower Rio Grande Valley in search of a host of Neotropical species not found outside the region. Our 30th Anniversary Celebration is also a social event in which participants are treated to social hours, dinners, and presentations by distinguished guest speakers. There will be numerous opportunities to interact with VENT tour leaders, special guests, and other celebration participants. A number of staff members from VENT's home office will be in attendance as well, some of whom you have come to know when registering for our tours.

In commemoration of this event, we have assembled an all-star team of tour leaders, bird and wildlife artists, nature writers, and guest lecturers including Victor Emanuel, Robert Bateman, Pete Dunne, Steve Hilty, Marshall Iliff, Lars Jonsson, Kenn Kaufman, Jeri Langham, Barry Lyon, Peter Matthiessen, Brennan Mulrooney, Bob Sundstrom, David Wolf, Barry Zimmer, Kevin Zimmer, and Brad and Alice Boyle. An added bonus will be the presence of journalist, author, and speaker, Scott Weidensaul, for the final day of the celebration. In 2004 Scott retraced the legendary 1953 journey of Roger Tory Peterson and James Fisher across America, which they documented in the classic Wild America. Scott will deliver his keynote speech the final night at Quinta Mazatlan.

This anniversary celebration is a significant milestone for VENT, marking 30 years of worldwide nature tours and conservation. It is guaranteed to be an exciting and successful event. Join us in McAllen this April and make new friends, renew old acquaintances, and help us celebrate our 30th birthday!
