More Information

A short trip offering birding in mangrove and dry forests, and a short boat trip to Little Tobago. Good chances for seeing Red-billed Tropicbird at nest. A full morning will be devoted to a visit to the oldest protected area in the Western Hemisphere. Good chances for seeing Blue-backed Manakin at the lek.

This short extension offers an excellent complement to our experience in Trinidad. With a different geological history, Tobago is home to two endemic species otherwise found only in eastern Venezuela.

A visit to Gilpin Trace will allow us to look for White-tailed Sabrewing and Venezuelan Flycatcher, while in the lowlands we will look for Blue-backed Manakin in a lekking area. Common Potoo sings regularly from the forest behind our hotel, and we will try to see the local race of Stripe-breasted Spinetail that will probably be considered a separate species in the near future.

Good accommodations; excellent food; travel by vehicle or van; short walks; one steep trail on Little Tobago; midday breaks; warm and humid weather.
