Our Norway Pre-trip offers a marvelous pre-cruise option for participants interested in experiencing more of Norway's birdlife and scenic grandeur. We will explore from Oslo to the Bergen area of the southwest, birding and sightseeing amid the majestic fjords, forests, mountains, and lakes that give the country its scenic renown. We’ll seek an exciting assortment of northern European birds, many of which are among the most sought-after on the continent. The possibilities are many and include opportunities for seeing such special birds as Arctic Loon, Gyrfalcon, Eurasian Dotterel, Temminck's Stint, Eurasian Pygmy-Owl, White-backed and Black woodpeckers, and Eurasian Bullfinch.
July is an outstanding time to visit what many regard as one of Europe's most beautiful and modern countries. The long days of summer are typically marked by almost continual sun and mild conditions. The landscapes and birdlife we expect to encounter form an impressive contrast to the experiences we will have on the cruise.
This tour may be taken in conjunction with Land of the Ice Bears: Spitsbergen, An In-Depth Exploration of Arctic Svalbard Aboard the National Geographic Explorer, July 30-August 8, 2010.
