A multi-themed cruise through the British Isles showcases rugged and beautiful landscapes, colonies of nesting seabirds, landbirding, and cultural and historical attractions.
For millennia, man and nature have thrived in the region we know as the British Isles. These ancient lands, timeless and undeniably beautiful, are repositories of natural and historical wonders, places where biological heritage intertwines inextricably with human legacy.
On this departure, one in our series of collaborative trips with Zegrahm Expeditions, we present an exciting voyage to Britain and Ireland, a multi-themed cruise offering plentiful activities both for the birding and natural history oriented and those whose preference is history, culture, and sightseeing. Traveling aboard the 120-passenger Ocean Adventurer, we’ll cruise from the south of England to the tip of Scotland, tracing a route to ports, islands, and archipelagos legendary in Anglo-Saxon lore: Falmouth, the Isles of Scilly, Waterford, Isle of Man, the Hebrides, St. Kilda, the Orkneys, Shetlands, Fair Isle, and Aberdeen.
Birders and nature enthusiasts will thrill to visiting some of the most important seabird breeding grounds in the Atlantic, to islands bedecked with colonies of shearwaters, storm-petrels, gannets, guillemots, murres, puffins, and more, while shore excursions bring opportunities to sight a fine variety of waterfowl, shorebirds, and landbirds.
In tandem with our natural history endeavors, time ashore includes options for visits to superb historical and cultural attractions including botanical gardens, World Heritage Site monasteries, the Waterford Crystal glassworks, the steam railway on the Isle of Man, a world-famous Scotch distillery on Islay, and visits to the famous archaeological sites of Skara Brae, the Standing Stones of Stenness, and the Ring of Brodgar.
Very good accommodations and cuisine; cruising time mixed with many shore excursions; a good choice for those with non-birding spouses or partners; weather ranges from sunny and mild to cool and rainy.
