Lars Jonsson is one of the most renowned bird and nature artists in the world. His field guide, The Birds of Europe, is regarded as one of the most beautiful bird books ever published. Lars became interested in birds and art when he was four years old, thanks to a babysitter who loved birds. He has published many books including Birds and Light, which describes his development as an artist and includes many of his paintings. Lars is active in the organization "Artists for Nature." This organization sends artists to a special natural area to draw attention to it and help in efforts to save it. One of these trips took Lars to Bandhavgarh, in central India. He was enormously impressed with the beauty and abundance of Indian birds and wildlife, and looks forward to the opportunity to return. In June 2003 Lars was honored by the King and Queen of Sweden as Artist of the Year. When the ceremony took place, he was on our Bering Sea Cruise in Siberia, but was able to speak to the King and Queen via satellite and speaker phone! Lars lives on the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea with his wife and four children.
